Finally, a textbook that works!

I am leaving my comments here as an instructor. The gem of this textbook is the hands-on exercise at the end of each chapter. It gives students something tangible to anchor the material in the chapters. This element caters to those whose learning style favors doing (over listening to my lectures, for example). There were a few minor errors in the instructions across the whole book, but students were invigorated even more to "make it work". I was pleased to witness students enjoying the sense of mastery at the end of each hands-on exercise. Once in a while I do have to use the search engine if I come across something highly technical in the hands-on exercise, but generally I was reasonably supported by the resources provided for instructors. Over all it was a positive experience for me and for my students to use this textbook for a 3-credit hour course.

The book is dated and had many errors. The labs were of very poor quality and the case studies used companies that are not even in business any more. The good news is they covered some very important concepts, but all the issues diminished the books value.
